With Eyes Closed spurs another attack
The dust has settled, the smoke has cleared, and the offending party has probably scurried back under his rock, so I will tell you now of a recent attack (yes, another) on With Eyes Closed.
Another blogger found his way to my blog, read some posts, and posted a couple of intelligent retorts: "Moron." and "You sir, are an idiot."
Naturally, I sent him an e-mail, letting him know what I thought of his witty banter. First, tho, I paid a visit to HIS blog, the cleverly titled "Shoot A Liberal." It was interesting to note that, while begging his readers to "pray for" various family members, and voicing his support for Isreal using Scripture quotations, he was calling for the shooting of people who hold differing views than his own, and leaving hateful comments on strangers' blogs.
So, again naturally, I pointed out his apparent hipocrisy, saying that he and those like him are the reason the world hates America and Christians.
After labeling me a "lefty" (I do write left-handed - how did he know?), he questioned my own faith, stating (as his only reason) that he had remembered reading profanity on my blog. So someone who spreads unprovoked hatred, supports illegal war, and calls (whether literally or figuratively) for the shooting of those with differing values and opinions is a model of Christian virtue, while someone who used the word "shit" is doomed to hell? Typical.
And it *is* typical. Typical that we can be rotting from intolerance, bigotry, self-righteousness, hatred, and finger-pointing on the inside, but if we put forth the proper appearance on the outside (spouting Bible verses, going faithfully to church, saying the 'right' words), we can convince ourselves that we're "OK."
I'm sure attacks will continue. I choose to put my views 'out there' for public perusal, so I must expect dissenters. I just hope my future 'attackers' will use intelligence and logic, and encourage rational discussion, rather than resorting to name-calling, political stereotyping, and drive-by pot-shots.
